François Chollet is a French software engineer, computer vision researcher, and author. He is currently an AI researcher at Google and is best known as the creator of the **Keras** deep learning library.
Keras and API Design
In 2015, Chollet created and released Keras, a high-level neural network API written in Python. Keras made deep learning accessible to millions of developers by providing a clean, user-friendly interface that could run on top of TensorFlow, Theano, or CNTK. Keras played a major role in the democratization of deep learning.
Measuring Intelligence: The ARC Challenge
Chollet has written extensively on artificial intelligence and generalization. In 2019, he proposed the **Abstraction and Reasoning Corpus (ARC)**, a benchmark designed to measure an AI's ability to solve novel reasoning tasks with minimal training data, challenging the idea that large language models represent a path to true general intelligence.
