Introduction
Mustafa Suleyman is a British technology entrepreneur. He is the co-founder and former Head of Applied AI at DeepMind. In 2024, he joined Microsoft to serve as the Chief Executive Officer of their newly formed consumer AI division.
Career and DeepMind
Suleyman grew up in London and attended Oxford University, dropping out to set up a non-profit counseling service. In 2010, he co-founded DeepMind. He led their applied research projects, integrating machine learning algorithms with Google's datacenter cooling infrastructure to optimize power consumption.
Inflection and Microsoft
After leaving DeepMind, Suleyman co-founded Inflection AI in 2022, introducing "Pi," a supportive conversational chatbot. In 2024, Microsoft hired Suleyman and his core engineering team to head its consumer-facing AI operations, including Microsoft Copilot.
