Richard Socher is a German computer scientist, entrepreneur, and academic. He is the founder and CEO of the AI-powered search engine You.com and previously served as the Chief Scientist at Salesforce.
Stanford Research and Recursive Deep Learning
Socher earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Stanford University in 2014, working under Andrew Ng and Christopher Manning. His doctoral research introduced recursive neural networks to natural language processing, showing how trees and structures in language could be represented mathematically. This research pioneered modern semantic parsing and sentiment analysis models.
MetaMind, Salesforce, and You.com
In 2014, Socher founded MetaMind, an enterprise AI platform that was acquired by Salesforce in 2016. At Salesforce, he served as Chief Scientist, leading research on multi-task natural language processing (DecaNLP). In 2020, he founded You.com, a search engine built on conversational AI, summarization, and customized user control.
