Introduction
Shane Legg is a New Zealand researcher, computer scientist, and co-founder of DeepMind. He has spent his career exploring the mathematical definitions and security limits of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).
PhD & Mathematical Intelligence
Legg completed his PhD in Lugano, Switzerland, under Marcus Hutter. His doctoral thesis, titled "Machine Superintelligence," formalized definitions of intelligence based on algorithmic information theory. This work laid the mathematical foundation for DeepMind's early research directions.
DeepMind Foundations
Legg co-founded DeepMind in 2010 with Demis Hassabis and Mustafa Suleyman. As Chief AGI Scientist, he continues to lead research teams at Google DeepMind dedicated to safety engineering and forecasting when AGI will be reached.
